CITY ATTORNEY: The City of Whitefish, Montana (pop. 8,281), a growing Rocky Mountain resort municipality, is seeking a City Attorney to replace its retiring City Attorney of 14 years. The City Attorney provides sound legal and litigation advice on civil matters to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and City Departments. The City Attorney also prepares ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other documents. Litigation authorization and policy direction comes from the Mayor and City Council. The City Manager provides day to day direction consistent with direction from the Mayor and City Council.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree, Juris Doctorate degree and current license to practice law in Montana. Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience as a municipal or county civil attorney is preferred.

The salary range is $70,000 - $95,000 annually plus an attractive benefits package.

Position: Valley County Attorney located in Glasgow, Montana
Application Deadline: June 26, 2009
Valley County Attorney has given notice to Valley County Commissioners of his intent to retire this August.
Nature of Work: Full time County Attorney duties as listed in Montana Code Annotated.
Salary: Valley County follows recommendation of 85% of district judge salary.
Start date: Preferred to start mid July of 2009

DEPUTY GALLATIN COUNTY ATTORNEY

Prosecute felony offenses in the district court and misdemeanor offenses in the justice court, file involuntary commitments, file child and adult protection actions all under the direction of the Gallatin County Attorney.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited law school and active membership in the State Bar of Montana.
